The Inner Child! The Unihipili! Ho’oponopono! And… Money?
Or, who’s really running the financial show
“Memories can keep money away... If you are clear about money, you’ll have it. The universe gives it if you will accept it. It is memories playing that keep it from you or stop you from seeing it.” – Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len
In our last conversation we talked about the Saboteur and how she offers you the choice of accepting or declining opportunities that come your way.
This week, let’s see if we can uncover where the Saboteur is getting her material!
I don’t know about you, but I had a very negative childhood when it came to work and money because of how my parents talked about these things.
Can you relate?
Example: I remember one random afternoon our neighbour came over to ask if I wanted to babysit their two kids. They reckoned they could trust me with the task of looking after their darling daughters and… they would of course pay me.
Wonderful, right?
* W-R-O-N-N-N-N-N-N-G! *
My mum, without missing a beat, yelled “SHE’LL DO IT FOR NOTHING”.
That’s how embarrassed she was that our neighbours would pay me to do them a favour. But you have to wonder what data she’d been carrying around for years?
So this is the way I was introduced to the ‘world of work’… from someone who also firmly believed “a workman is worthy of his hire”.
Talk about conflicting messages!
Spot Quiz:
Do you think it helped me build a little self-esteem so I could go out into the world and negotiate on my own terms? To start my own business and get paid?
Absolutely not! I got the message loud and clear that I wasn’t allowed to make money working for myself. It’s fine for other people… just not for me.
And it didn’t stop there.
I also regularly heard stuff like ‘making money is hard’… ‘you have to do things you don’t want to do to make money’… ‘we can’t afford it’…
I mean, come on, can you relate to any of this?
Think back to the stories you heard while growing up.
And I want you to think about how it made you feel then. And how it makes you feel now. How have those stories carried through?
Please think about this for a moment:
“Our findings suggest that self-esteem, feeling good or bad about yourself, is fundamental. By age 5, children have a sense of self-esteem comparable in strength to that of adults.” – Molly McElroy, The Institute for Learning and Brain Science.
The fact of the matter is that by age FIVE, you had basically already learned everything about yourself. And this would include attitudes about money and work – whether it’s good or bad, how easy it is to create… By age five, you had it all figured out!
You experienced and downloaded the data and that was it. Your subconscious heard all the phrases and stored them away taking them as true even if they weren’t.
Think about it, you aren’t in charge at all!
Your inner five-year-old has been running the show! Relying on the BULL SHIT, all the data you collected as a child!
You and I had only just arrived on the planet and within what from our now “grown up” perspective feels like the first half hour of our lives if that, our minds, these wonderful sponges that just took in everything without question… BAM! There we had it. Our minds were filled with financial propaganda and we didn’t have a clue if it was helpful or not. We just accepted it.
So, here’s the thing. I want you to close your eyes and go back to being a young child, as young as you can remember, in a room at home with your parents or whoever was raising you and go back to a time when those care-givers were talking about money and business, their jobs. Listen to what they were saying and as best as you can, try to feel whatever you felt at that time. Love or fear? What is the biggest message that you received from them about money?
So, were your parents or care-givers saying that there was more than enough money to share and spare and that you were wonderful and could make all the money you wanted just by doing whatever you loved to do? Is that the warm, fuzzy electrical charge you got from that? (I hope so!) Or was the energy and the feeling more like “sit down and shut up!”? (Just so you know, that’s how I tend to remember it).
Now, don’t forget: the inner child that gave you those answers is STILL ADVISING YOU TODAY ON MONEY AND BUSINESS MATTERS – and all other matters for that matter – based on what she heard and observed all that time ago.
I want you to really think about this, are you in effect a prisoner to the thoughts of that five-year-old child? Sitting here right now, logically you know that that was then and this is now, but somewhere, buried in the back of your mind, is that little voice still running the show, sabotaging you and slowing you down?
It’s not “wrong” by the way. There’s no need to beat yourself up if that is the case but, now that you’re aware of what’s going on you can begin to do something about it! Which is great, right?
Remember, the child is scared. She was given all this responsibility that she didn’t understand or know how to deal with and on top of that had to try and keep you alive long enough that you could get here and read this. Who else keeps you breathing when you forget to? The child! Let’s face it, she’s got a lot on her plate.
This is about taking the key to the prison door and freeing not only yourself but your inner child as well.
You’ve got to love that child – your subconscious – folks.
And the relationship with the inner child is what Dr ˋIhaleakalā Hew Len called “the most important relationship in the universe” and with very good reason. If you can get the child to work with you, if you can love her and nurture her so she trusts you, my God, you will unlock the doors to the Kingdom.
“Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven and all else will be added unto you.”
If Dr Hew Len were here, he’d advise you to get on with the cleaning – Ho’oponopono.
Whenever you feel a pang of fear that things are getting away from you, or you feel an overwhelming urge to back away from a fantastic opportunity, just start the Ho’oponopono process. Just start repeating the four key phrases:
I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you
And if you want more support with healing your relationship with your inner child – the Unihipili in Ho’oponopono – this YouTube video featuring Dr Hew Len is highly recommended viewing:
Remember what Dr Hew Len said: “The problems are not people, places, and situations but rather the thoughts of them.”
And you neutralise those thoughts – your problems – with the cleaning.
Get to it!
