Mindset, Sovereignty And… Radical Receiving!
Or, what to do when you hit a glass ceiling
“The message I like to convey to women and girls across the globe is there is no glass ceiling.” – Venus Williams
Aloha, lovely entrepreneurs!
Pour yourself a glass of something bold – perhaps a Malbec with a bit of a “rebel” soul – and let’s settle into a truth that might feel a little uncomfortable.
Regardless of which Sacred Money Archetype you resonate most strongly with, there’s a good chance you’ve had a visit from the ghost of the “Salary Ceiling.”
You finally rebelled and left the corporate world or the steady job because you were bored, stifled, or simply too “much” for a cubicle.
You figured you only get one shot at this so why not break rules, innovate and offer a perspective that jars people out of their complacency? Good idea!
But… what if your subconscious money thermostat is still set to your old P60?
This is a HUGE problem.
Here’s the dangerous mindset that can unseat you:
“I don’t think I can make more than I did when I had a job.”
It sounds logical, doesn’t it? It almost feels like “responsible” thinking. But in reality, it’s a survival mechanism that is strangling your business. This thought is a direct insult to your soul’s contract. You didn’t start a business to recreate a mid-level management income; you started it to manifest a life that’s as expansive as your ideas and helps as many people as possible.
Let’s take a look at five ways this dangerous mindset might be sabotaging your money goals…
1. The Pricing Floor
The Impact: When you believe your value is capped by your old salary, you price your services based on “market rates” or what you used to get paid hourly. You find yourself googling what a “Lifestyle Coach” earns and setting your fees there. This creates a floor that you can never quite jump off, leaving you under-earning and over-delivering.
The Choice: Instead of pricing based on your “cost,” choose to price based on the transformation. You offer a unique, contrarian perspective that others can’t. Your value isn’t an hourly rate; it’s the radical shift you provide. Choose to set fees that reflect the impact of your wisdom, not the ghost of your old paycheque.
Say: I AM safe to be wealthy, powerful and unconventional as I deliver life-changing transformation to my clients
2. The Time-for-Money Trap
The Impact: In a job, you were paid for your presence. If you carry that into your business, you’ll stay stuck in a 1:1 model that caps your income at your physical capacity. You’ll find yourself working 60 hours a week just to match your old salary, which is the antithesis of the 20-hour-week dream.
The Choice: Choose Scalability over Shackles. Your best work comes when you have the freedom to think and innovate. As well as raising your rates (see above), choose to build passive income streams – courses, memberships, or digital assets – that decouple your income from your clock and let you set your own hours.
Say: I AM decoupling my time from my income with ease and grace
3. Safety-First Stagnation
The Impact: Your old job provided a false sense of security. If you’re still mentally tied to that income level, you’ll avoid the “big” strategic risks – like hiring a high-level team or investing in funnels to promote your passive income streams – because “it’s too much money.” You’re playing it safe, which is the fastest way to die a slow, professional death.
The Choice: Choose Strategic Expansion. Recognize that the safety of a job was actually a cage. True security comes from your ability to generate your own wealth, not your ability to grow someone else’s dreams and save pennies along the way. Choose to invest in the structures that allow your vision to go global.
Say: I AM the architect of my own economy and there is NO glass ceiling!
4. The “Manager” Mentality
The Impact: You find yourself managing your business like a department head rather than leading it like a CEO. You get bogged down in the “how” and the administrative minutiae because that’s what “work” looked like in your old life. This keeps you in the weeds and out of the spotlight.
The Choice: Choose Sovereignty. You are not a manager; you are an owner. Choose to delegate the tasks that drain your spark so you can stay in your Zone of Genius. Your job is to lead the vision, not to file the receipts.
Say: I AM the CEO of a global vision that abundantly rewards me for my unique perspective
5. Subconscious Sabotage of the “Big Win”
The Impact: This is the sneakiest one. When a massive opportunity arrives – a podcast that could go viral or a high-ticket client – you find a way to blow it. You miss the deadline or doubt your pitch. Why? Because your internal “Salary Ghost” is screaming that you aren’t “allowed” to have that much money at once. It feels “too big” for the person you used to be.
The Choice: Choose Radical Receiving. Accept that the woman who worked that job is not the woman standing here today. Choose to celebrate every Big Win as evidence the ceiling has been smashed.
Say: I AM worthy of the luxury and freedom I am creating and I celebrate that now!
